About the UK Service Centre

Our dedicated SSAB UK Service Centre is your trusted partner for your steel products and processing services.

Our UK Service Centre was the first of its kind in the UK dedicated solely to colour-coated steel.

Being part of SSAB means that we are able to control the steel making process, from extraction of the iron ore right through to customer delivery, providing you with one safe pair of hands to take responsibility for the entire steel manufacturing process.

As the only UK-based mill-owned service centre for colour-coated steel, the centre services the breadth of the UK and Ireland, and also exports to America and the Middle East.

Whilst dedicated to supporting our UK partners, we remain proud of our Nordic heritage, and the UK Service Centre operates using our time-tested best practices for optimal safety and added value.

Installed in the 40,000 sq ft factory is a range of decoiling equipment giving SSAB an ever increasing throughput of steel sheet, blanks and slit coils, produced to tolerances demanded by the industry.

Our bespoke Durmech cut-to-length line was commissioned specifically for processing Aluzinc and pre-painted steel. This cut-to-length line can handle sheet from 0.35mm to 2.00mm thick and up to 10 metres in length by 1.5 metres wide, this complemented the existing AKV cut-to-length line which can process 0.35mm – 1.5mm in lengths up to 10 metres by 1.25m wide.

To complement cut length and profiling to customer specification the facility also offers a fully integrated slitting service. Slitting can be accommodated for all widths down to 10mm, in thickness 0.40mm – 0.90mm, in both Aluzinc and pre-painted materials.

Incorporated into the slitting line is an embossing facility. Although “stucco” embossed Aluzinc is the main output we are also able to offer these finishes using painted products. All these options make the sheet both aesthetically attractive and much more rigid so widening the opportunities for metal product designers to add the corrosion-free benefits of Aluzinc and pre-painted steel to their own products.

What is the environmental impact?

At SSAB, we’re proud to operate some of the most environmentally-friendly steel plants in the industry.

At SSAB, we’re proud to operate some of the most environmentally-friendly steel plants in the industry.

They recycle heat, provide eco-friendly transportation, and are committed to manufacturing steel with minimal impact on the environment. From mining through to end-of-life, our steel is 100% recyclable: making SSAB the choice for ecological steel manufacture.

Of course, these environmental benefits mean we’re able to save you money and provide added value, through both efficient processes and our choice of materials.

One main way in which we do this is by using the the most environmentally-friendly paint system in the world, GreenCoat®: our innovative, eco-conscious, colour-coated steel. Premium, Nordic-quality steel, GreenCoat is hard-wearing, durable, and designed to withstand hard-conditions: providing optimal product safety and longevity. By the utilisation of Swedish Rapeseed Oil within the paint we are able to significantly reduce the use of solvents and other harmful ingredients.
